A Tale Of Li Chun

Note : This article was originally written Feb.3.2004

One cold early February morning in the Midwestern part of the United
States back in the year of 2004, I sat in anticipation of a
monumental event that was about to occur. The Chinese call it Li
Ch'un...in the west it is simply translated as "Spring Begins". The date was
February 4 and everyone was talking about a feeling in the gut, a
twinkling in their head, special vibrations in the heart, and a
million other things that happen to them when the cosmic energy
shifts. Since at this time a 20 year energy shift was about to take
place in addition to the yearly shift of energy, the atmosphere all
over the globe was at a high level. People were even talking about
ascending to heavenly realms at this time. Wow! I could hardly
wait to experience all this. I fasted 5 days for this event so that
my earthly body would be as receptive as possible. I calculated the
event down to the second using latitude, longitude, equation of time
and every other time trick I learned throughout my decades of
study. Oh yes, I was gonna join in the fun this time, I was ready.
I couldn't wait to see what kind of cosmic experience I was about to
have. Well, the time came and passed and guess what happened.
NOTHING. No twinges or twinkles, no special vibrations, no luvy
duvy feelings...nothing. I knew the Tao did not make a mistake
because the Tao is perfect. So I guess it must have been me. So I
waited an extra 5 minutes to take miscalculations into account, then
an extra hour, then an extra day even.....Nothing! Everyone else
was talking about the Cosmic Orgasm they experienced at the exact
moment of Li Ch'un...and here I was with nothing. I missed the
party again this year. I decided to go see the Ancient Wise Master.

I went up into the mountains to see the Ancient Wise Master (AWM)
who has been residing there for the past 50 years. He knew the
answers to everything. I asked him why everyone got to experience
Li Ch'un except for me. I told him I ate better than anyone I know,
studied harder than anyone I know, meditated longer than anyone I
know, and lived my life as close to nature as possible. The AWM
said " People are knowledgeable of both fact and fiction and so it
comes down to a mathematical solution". Could you explain the
solution I asked, in which he replied "A little fact plus a little
fiction equals a lot of bull". Hmmm, he always had a way with
parables. He also said " A person who experiences nothing when
there are energy shifts may be MORE receptive and aligned with
cosmic processes and nature than the ones who hear and feel cosmic
bells and whistles". He went on, "this is because a smooth
transition is taking place between the cosmos and the individual,
there are no interruptions. Twinges could indicate an uneven flow of
energy.....be like the seasons and transform without any
expectation. When the seasons shift between spring and summer it is
done in an instant...in less than a second, there is no noticeable
change in temperature, atmospheric conditions, humidity, etc. Make
your transition as smooth as this. If the seasons don't concern
themselves with twinges and whistles, why should you". I told him
that most people who are unhealthy and have little intelligence or
wisdom do not experience Li Ch'un twinges. Does this mean they are
aligned with the cosmos. He was getting annoyed with my lack of
understanding as he continued, " There is quite a difference
between a healthy, wise person transforming with the cosmos and an
unhealthy ignorant fool transforming with it.....now go away you
ignorant fool" So I bowed my head and walked back down the
mountain.

As I was walking back home in shame and embarrassment I happened to
see a young man carrying a McDonald's bag and eating a greasy cheese
burger and sipping on a coke, I also noticed he had a large fries
and apple pie in the bag. He was listening to Pearl Jam on his
Walkman radio and he was chatting away on his cell phone. He also
had a very unhealthy look and after getting a whiff of his odor I was
happy that we were traveling in opposite directions. He offered me
a bite of his sandwich, which I declined. Then he said, "Hey Dude,
yesterday was Li Ch'un.....Oh man, I heard bells, whistles, my body
went though a cosmic cleansing.....it was awesome dude. I'm gonna go
share my experiences with the Ancient Wise Master". As he walked
away I felt a great sense of relief. If the AWM called me an
ignorant fool, heaven only knows what this young Pearl Jammin guy
was in for. I couldn't help myself, I decided to sit right there
for a little while. I pulled out my binoculars and I could see that
the kid made it up the mountain to the AWM. What I saw next was
beyond anything I could imagine. The AWM was sharing the cheese
burger with the kid and eating the greasy french fries like they
were going out of style. They were laughing and dancing and having
a good ole time. Then the AWM put on the headphones and started
listening to Pearl Jam. I was speechless. I was confused. I
looked up at the sky and yelled " CAN WE FEEL LI CH'UN OR NOT" Then
came the reply "THE ANCIENT WISE MASTER IS NO DIFFERENT THAN RONALD
MC DONALD" At this instant....... in less than the one second the
Master said it takes for the spring to transform to summer..... I
became enlightened.

Happy Li Ch'un

Hi Michelle -

Thank you. I am happy to know that you don't find me too much "off center" :-) Sometimes I like to write some 'strange' things to take away some of the pressure. It can be kind of relaxing.

The biggest problem with "Wise Old Man on Hill" is that we put them there. If one really reads the miceprint one sees that "Feng Shui is not a religion, but a science or art."

Many people climb those hills to get away from others. They are misanthropic by nature. Others are escaping what they cannot change.

Others simply want to see the nice view and be left alone.

Just as mountains do not necessarily make for good feng shui, Hills do not necessarily make for sages or wise men.

Confucius was a moralist, most of the Feng shui ancients were wise but not religious. They were speaking on a platform of trying to harmonize with the forces of nature not spiritualize us.

We are already spiritual by nature. When we stop blocking it with bad vibrations of wrong life, wrong diet, wrong actions, something wonderful manifests.

Most modern "Meta-physics" is simply a more subtle material physics. To call occultism and Metaphysics as a spiritual path is to ultimately set ourselves up for a disappointment.

That is why we will ultimately be disappointed climbing those hills looking for some W.O.M.(AWM).

The real sages are the ones who see the masses suffering and get up off their buns to do something, materially, mentally, emotionally and spiritually to ease that suffering.

A hungry man is too weak to think of anything but how to fill his belly.

The ancient Vedic practice was to have the priestly caste (brahmanas) trained in Astrology, medicine, and Vastu or Feng Shui. They would visit the homes of even the poor and help them solve their problems via the above skills.

Then they would ask, "Is your mind peaceful? Have your problems been solved?" Only then would they impart any spiritual knowledge.

Most of my counseling is bringing others to a peaceful place where they realize that they are able to make choices and that they can choose Joy. I help them realize their own natural empowerment and then step back and watch them bloom. (a little watering, feeding and pruning will go on as well) But what a harvest!

In fact that's my favorite "Secret" mantra - "I choose Joy" That's the real "Secret".

Guess Who? Do we see a pattern of dance steps here?

Hi anonymous -

I suppose that Feng Shui can be a science, art, or religion...it depends who is categorizing it. After we categorize it the way it is comfortable with us then we enjoy the bliss or the agony of our "labeling". Yes, hills can be for fools or sages...same with mountains.

Confucius was certainly a moralist. But he was also the butt of many Taoist jokes. What Confucius saw as important, Taoists did not. Their hill/mountain was different, their perspective was different. Both thought they were right I'm sure. Confucius preached to the world to get rid of "bad" intentions, "wrong" life, "wrong diet", etc. The Taoists said, " do what you want, it's your life and it's none of my business". Diametrically opposing viewpoints, but both had a strong and lasting effect on the world.

Are we really able to make choices and choose joy according to our own human existance or is it our destiny. If it is our destiny are we strong enough to alter it? And if we are strong enought to alter it, does that mean we are equivalent to Heaven/God/Tao living as humans the way we do today? The real "secret" is that there is no secret. The real shame is to try to convince people that there are secrets...and the ultimate shame is that people try to profit from these "secrets" by charging others for it.

I think I'm catching on the dance steps here. I'm pretty sure I know who you are. Whether I do or not, I do thank you for taking the time to visit and I do wish you the best.

As far as choices, from my own experience I have found out definitely, yes, we have that power. The Vedas teach that we are a spark of that divine.

So yes, as much as we are brave enough to take that responsibility, we can choose joy. Karma is not written in stone. It is a plant which bears fruit. We have planted it and we are watering it. What has been planted can be dug up and replanted.

This has been proven not just by my own experience but those who I have counseled(who have applied the knowledge)Which is available for free.

As far as all the "isms"
It's the old story of the 5 blind men and the elephant repeating itself.

Each "ism" is simply defining what they see from their different perspective. They are simply looking at the same thing with different vision.

As small living entities we can never with such small brains see the whole picture. But all of these things we study and discuss are a part of that whole. The more we learn that is valid, the larger our vision becomes.

Vedically there is an astrological combination which causes the person who is influenced by it to be always looking for one more point, one more fact that will bring it all together.

I know it is in my chart, so I have learned to use it simply to grow more. I have come to a point that I know I will never need to know it all.

The facts point to a bigger pattern, an inconceivably loving consciousness which has manifest all we really need to be happy.

My greatest success has been to put things into practice.

Sometimes we become armchair philosophers. Sometimes the astrologer, priest, counselor, Feng Shui specialist is not practicing what they preach (Okay I'll admit that this can happen a lot)

When I practice what I learn and apply it in my own life, wonderful things happen. The numbers, stars, directions etc. jump off the pages and dance in my life.

The best sign of a bonafide AWM is that he/she practices what they preach.

We can sit around and analyze the chemical components in the jar of honey, but that will never allow us to really experience what that honey tastes like.

The only way to know the validity of a path, theory, teaching is to try it out and see how well it applies to life.

Thanks for your patience with my "cat and mouse games" Did't mean it that way. Sorry, I'm still very young at heart and didn't think it would bother anyone to be playful.:-)

I promise to behave better in the future.

Hello CRdd -

Don't worry a bit about the cat and mouse games. I'm sure many who read your comments will find joy and satisfaction in them. And for heavens sake PLEASE don't worry about behaving. Be yourself regardless of what I or anyone else thinks...I kinda like rebels and people who stray from the norm. If I respond to your last post I'll be here for days on end, so I better save it for later. I have a suspicious side and I'm not totally convinced that you are CRdd, but I assure you it doesn't matter. Feel free to write whatever is on your mind under any name you wish and regardless of what it may seem I am not bothered by you in any way.

By the way, do you know or have you ever heard of David Harvey. He has visited here before. I have a feeling you would like what he writes. It seems that you hinted that from experience one definitely has the power of choice, meaning I suppose, even if it is ordained or destined by heaven. Are you saying you have the power to alter the patterns of heaven ??? David Harvey once wrote an article about destiny and our ability to connect with it. It was a few years ago, but it was quite interesting to say the least. I would love for him to post it. Where are you David.

Best Wishes

Andy
